The Wharves bring ‘Electa’ to London

The Wharves will return with their second album, ‘Electa’.

Due on 4 November, the LP will be supported by a UK tour that includes two London stops: a Rough Trade instore (25 October) and at New River Studios with Sleeve and Bamboo (27 October).

The trio, from Ireland, France, and England, are teasing the album with new single ‘The Strike’ that showcases their three-part harmonies and musical mash-up of minimal psych-rock, fuzzed-out folk, and heavy rock.

They’ve drawn comparisons to ‘60s girl groups, Kim Deal’s The Amps, and ‘70s sisters vocal trio The Roches but the trio – guitarist Dearbhla Minogue, drummer Marion Andrau, and bass player Gemma Fleet – have a celebratory sound all their own. And they’re never afraid to experiment.

Take the personal and atmospheric tracks ‘Your Lies are Fun’ and ‘L’autre’ which, five years into their career, mark a change in direction for the group. Or ‘Electa’ closer ‘My Will’, which boasts a 20-piece female choir complementing the trio’s own power.
