Red Hot Chili Peppers make a getaway to The O2

Red Hot Chili Peppers, who headline this weekend’s Reading and Leeds Festivals, are returning to the UK in December for their first national tour since 2011.

The band, currently on the road promoting their 11th studio album, play London’s O2 Arena on 5 and 6 December 2016, with support from Japan’s Babymetal.

Tickets go on general sale on 2 September.

Since releasing their LP ‘The Getaway’ in June, singer Anthony Kiedis, bassist Flea, drummer Chad Smith, and guitarist Josh Klinghoffer have spent the summer playing festivals like Japan’s Fuji Rock, Chicago’s Lollapalooza, and Scotland’s T In The Park.

Produced by Danger Mouse, ‘The Getaway’ hit #1 in 10 European countries and continues the success story of a band who have sold over 60 million albums, won six Grammy Awards, and been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Formed in 2010, J-pop teen metallers Babymetal first gained international attention when their video ‘Gimme Chocolate!!’ went viral. Since then their global stature has grown to such an extent that in April they headlined Wembley Arena, just as their second album, ‘Metal Resistance’, hit the highest position a Japanese band have reached on the UK charts.

Back home, the group are even more successful and will be performing at Tokyo Dome on two successive nights in September to a collective audience of 110 000 people.
