John Grant heads to Royal Albert Hall

John Grant, who releases his third album next week, has announced a special show at London’s Royal Albert Hall on 15 June 2016.

The singer, who plays London’s Hammersmith Apollo next month (12 November), has also announced an extensive UK and Ireland tour taking place in early 2016 in support of the new album, ‘Grey Tickles, Black Pressure’.

Tickets for his Royal Albert Hall show are available on 2 October 2015.

The follow-up to 2013’s ‘Pale Green Ghosts’ was recorded in Dallas, Texas, with St Vincent producer John Congleton and features Grant’s seamless blend of electronic pop and elegiac ballads, alongside ventures into icy synthscapes, buzzing rock, and orchestral drama.

“I do think the album’s great, and I’m really proud of it,” says Grant, who won a 2014 BRITS Best International Male Solo Artist nomination alongside Drake, Eminem, Bruno Mars, and Justin Timberlake.

“I wanted to get moodier and angrier on this record, but I probably had a lot more fun making it,” adds the former frontman of The Czars who launched his solo career with 2010’s ‘Queen Of Denmark’.

Of the new album title, the multilingual singer explains: “‘Grey tickles’ is the literal translation from Icelandic for ‘mid-life crisis’, while ‘black pressure’ is the direct translation from Turkish for ‘nightmare’.”

Which is not to say that the new release is all dark. Like exuberant lead single ‘Disappointing’, which features Tracey Thorn sharing vocal duties. And the contagious ‘You And Him’ which is all gleeful rock and squelchy electronica.

“I want to continue to challenge myself. To keep collaborating, to get the sound or the direction that will take me where I need to go,” says Grant of the album that also features a guest appearance from Amanda Palmer.

“To keep taking the bull by the horns.”
